FALL PREVENTION

WHAT IS FALL PREVENTION?

Several studies have shown Tai Chi for Arthritis  effective at preventing falls. In addition to this program, the Tai Chi for Health curriculum addresses many chronic illnesses with excellent results over other traditional treatment plans.  It works through improving balance, confidence and muscular strength.

 

WHY IS A FALL PREVENTION PROGRAM IMPORTANT?

Falls are the main reason older adults lose their independence and the leading cause of injury-related deaths, hospitalizations and emergency department visits among adults 65 and older.

This year one third of adults over 65 will fall and those who have fallen will be at an increased risk to fall again:

60% of hospitalized patients will be discharged to a nursing home or rehabilitation center
11% will have suffered a traumatic brain injury
27% will have fractured a hip

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT FALLS ARE PREVENTABLE
